A customer tests out a Russian-made rifle at a gun shop in the Afghan capital Kabul December 26, 2001. The new Afghan government has banned people from carrying guns on the streets of Kabul in the first step towards disarming a nation awash with firearms after 23 years of war. Gotta love those .73 caliber smoothbores.
If not for reporters, we'd have to read more fiction. Oops, same thing. Sam |

Back when the Brits had an Empire, the Afghans would get hold of a British weapon, and duplicate it by taking it apart and hand filing/forging parts. The results oft had parts interchangeability with the originals. I've seen a copy of a large Webley revolver made this way. The owner made his own ammo, a mild version of the 455 Webley. It shot OK. My guess is that "Russian Rifle" was made a few feet from the photo op.BTW, wanna bet that long arm is a copy of the Enfield M/L rifled musket?
As for the caption on these photos, most so called journalists and reporters couldn't find their mamas in a room full of kangaroos, gun wise. |

Notice...
That they only have their fingers on the triggers when they're looking through the sights, probably testing the trigger.
That's better gun handling than you see in the shops around here...
