Marlin Golden 39A question

A friend is thinking about selling his Marlin Golden 39A and asked what is a good price for the gun. It is in very good condion. The serial number is V141XX.

Any ideas what the gun is worth and what year it was made in?

V serial prefix puts manufacture from Aug 1961-1962. As for price looking at gun broker quick shows completed auction prices all over the map. Value is going to depend mostly on condition. Cheapest one I found there was $379 and they go up exponentially from there. Too many variables without seeing the gun.

I paid $450 for a 1976 in excellent condition last fall. As said in previous post it involves many variables. What condition is it in? All original?

I paid $425 for a 1966 model in VG-Exe condition at a gunshow last year. I use it for smallbore CLA silhouette. It shoots very well and I am happy with it.

Amazing...I bought my second one new (still regret trading off the first) in 1969 for $89, as I recall.

The older ones, in good condition, are real treasures.

Well I did pick you the gun today. It is a 1962 Model 39A Golden Mountie. It also has a Weaver V22 scope and Weaver rings. Looked over the gun very closely and could not find any pits or rust spots. The stock also has no scratches or dents.

I find it amazing the condition of this gun conditioning it was never stored in a safe, gun cabnet or rug of any type. The most protection it had was a bath towel wrapped around it stored under a bed.

The ex-owner of the gun is a friend and if I remember right, I think we shot it back in the late 70s or early 80s.

It gets better !!

Well now, you didn't state that it was a Mountie, on your initial post. That makes the pot sweeter and the price just went up. Not going to ask what you paid as I'm sure it's worth it !! ....

Enjoy and;

I had a Mountie in the early 60's and loved it, but it had a flaw that bugged me so much, I got rid of it.

The rifle was used for plinking and hunting. From a rest, I could shoot under 3/4" at 50 yards with the receiver sight.

The flaw? The top of the receiver was not perpendicular to the sides. When I mounted a Williams 5D receiver sight the flaw was so obvious it drove me nuts!!! It may not have bothered me to that extent today, or I might have just milled it to make it right.
