I may have found my perfect .357 load

My goal was to get 1100fps from my 3" SP101 without a lot of recoil or flash. This is going to be my self-defence load.

Today I got out the old crono and tested out my new load which was a 158gr LSWC behind 8.0 gr of Power Pistol.

Five shot average clocked at 1108fps producing 430 ft/lbs.

Recoil was mild in this all steel gun. I only loaded up 20 rounds so I couldn't test for accuracy very much, but now I have a few hundred and I'll see what I can do with em.

I find that Lil Gun gives my 4" Ruger Securitysix the same velocities as other powders with far less felt recoil. Don't notice flash as I shoot.

what lead bullet?

You using a commercial lead bullet. I cannot seem to get a commercial bullet much over 800 fps w/o awful leading. This w/ Unique powder.

Am much hoping to to get a 158 LSWC to 1000 fps from my utlity Blackhawk, but not much luck w/o leading.

If you decide you want to have a bright flash and still have good speed, try some Blue Dot. The bad guy would give up from just the flash of the thing.

I'm curious if you buy or make your own bullets. If so, what brand are you using? I have a few pounds of PP and a LOT of brass in 357 and 38. Do you recall where you got any data from to develop this load?
