Way Too Much Gun!

.950 JDJ by SSK Industries

Uses 240 grains of powder to push a 2,400 gr bullet at 2,100 fps.

While lacking the stopping power of the .45 auto it makes up for it with longer range.

Be sure to use a scope with enough eye relief!

YouTube video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwr2_d-lYGU

IMHO, JDJ is probably the greatest wildcatter of all times. He pioneered the use of high BC and slow heavy bullets & cartridges which have changed long distance shooting. His whisper line of cartridges are testimony, plus he has given us many great handgun cartridges as well.

I can think of a couple of gun scribes who are no longer with us would be pleased with his 950.:

That's just Neat

Check out the history and background at this link. There's a neat little story about over powered rifles.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_bore

Once again you guys make my 900g .62 bullets seem under powered

I wouldn't mind having that 950 if just to hand it to that smart ass at the range that says he can shoot anything

That's cool JDJ came up with the concept and built it...

But what possesses someone to build THAT?

It would have been nice to see the impact the bullet had on the target.

(And, of course, how it did when fired into ballistic gel )

Wow, I've broken my collar bone before...so no thanks.

On a serious note, isn't it illegal for civilians to have weapons that big? I'm pretty sure the BATFE frowns on 20mm artillery, and by my math, that's 24mm. Just wondering.

Although mounting a Phalanx on my front porch would definitely keep away solicitors.

Isn't there something about "sporting purposes" that allows a 12ga around the same restriction? Call it a hunting rifle and ot gets around the destructive device classification?

I hear you, but that's an awful lot of manufacturing and development cost to produce something not enjoyable to shoot with no practical application. Change either of those 2 variables, and I could understand it more.

I think you'd need a block of ballistic gel the size of a shipping container.

Those allow 10, 12, 20, and 28 gauge to be allowed - but they were grandfathered because of their historical prior use. Did he get prior allowance?
