I have a 9mm, a .40 and a couple of .380s. My CZ PCR in 9mm is easy to shoot and very accurate. The Springfield XDM in .40 is accurate and a bit less easy, but still fun. If I could only have on caliber, it would be 9mm.

My favorite is .45 acp followed by 9mm. I have other calibers but those are what I like best.

I have favorites but the order that I shoot them in due to cost is..

22lr
9mm
45ACP
357 Sig

My main defensive guns when carrying are in 45 ACP, but I have 22lr stand-ins for them for practice.

I still shoot more 22lr than anything else.

Honestly for range it is the 380. It is cheap and easy to reload. And I really have a thing for some of the guns chambered in it. The Makarov, CZ 83, Beretta 84, and Sig P250 are a ball of fun to shoot. Hopefully someday I will get a Sig P232 and a Walther PPK to go with my current guns

9mm

That being said.. there is a special place in my heart for 10mm. Just don't have the bank account to feed it. Maybe some day

124gr +P 9mm JHP followed by 230gr .45 Ball if hollow point if JHP ever ceases to be an option for some silly reason or another. .22LR for practice as well. Any other caliber is an also ran as far as I'm concerned.

I've said it before, calibers don't win fights. Trained shooters do. All of the other rounds out there, in my very subjective opinion, were developed in a very vain attempt to try to pick up the slack for shooters who should be training more and worrying about what diameter their bullet is less. I'd rather see every member on this forum pack a little .22 mouse gun but train with it week in and week out than packing .50 AE Desert Eagles and hitting the range once or twice a year. Get out and train!

You said "favorite caliber for semi-autos", but you didn't specify favorite for what purpose. So: For cheap, monthly practice: .22LR. For SD/HD, hands down, the .45 ACP.

By far, the .45 acp is my favorite over all others.
