Ruger doing something new?

Ruger® No.1 Rifles are available in select calibers and configurations for 2013, these caliber offerings will be discontinued in 2014, when we will introduce new calibers for these configurations.

I am not sure they were doing this before, but new calibers every year.

I seen nothing new in that list.

It looks like a resurrection of old variants and previous chamberings.

But... they may just be testing the market, for now.

I think the Varmint #1-V in 6.5x284 may get some interest not sure how much @ $1349.

They are most likely limiting the chamberings on a yearly basis to limit overhead. If they do not sell many, might as well save the set up costs of doing say 30 chamberings a year, and just focus on say 5 and rotate them.

So see on in the caliber you like and get it. Might not be available for awhile.

I'm sure there is not enough demand to offer multiple calibers every year in all the variations. Looks like the plan is to offer one caliber in each of the variations per year. Not many people shooting single shots these days.

I'm sure you will see Distributer Exclusives on top of those, such as Lipseys does. That's practical for Ruger because they generally get a firm sale of 250 guns to a distributer, and let them take the risk of getting them sold.

That's pretty much how some of those were being run in the past, though.

Perfect example:
7x57mm "International"

Ruger would offer it for a year, or so, then drop it for 2, 3, or 5 years. Then, it would come back in .243 Win for 8 months to a year, and get dropped again.
Then, it would show up in another chambering for a while, and get dropped again.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

From my perspective, they just made it an "official" practice. (And are probably hoping a little more "collect them all!" hype will drive sales, or at least get each production run to sell faster.)
