colt double action problem

Several years ago I purchased a somewhat wierd combination. It is a Colt Trooper frame / action, that someone had attached a python hunter barrel to. The gun shoots fine in single action, but often will not fire when I try shooting double action. Everything seems to operate correctly, and there is no binding. There are no apparent marks made on the primers. Any thoughts on what might be wrong would be appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds to me like the hammer spring is week . From single action it has a longer drop ,but during double action the hammer drops a shorter distance and may not have enough power . Someone my have cut the hammer spring to lighten the double action .

Hipshot - Thanks for the info. I'll order a replacement part from Numrich and see what happens.
