Love the .30-30...

Went to help dad on his place yesterday... Took the .30-30 to make sure the scope was ready...
I love being able to shoot off a box and a half of ammo with just a tank top so I had the unpadded stock right on skin. No discomfort, no flinch and no soreness of bruising today

Gun is shooting minute of deer at 80 yards with out formal rest nor solid seating...

I may still pull that silly scope off if I can muster the money for 2 boxes of 170 grain so I can verify my iron sight alignment...

Why are you not hand loading your 30-30's
Lee is still selling their inexpensive hand loading kits. I started with those kits 38 year ago and still use the 30-30 kit on occasion.

$30 will get you one off e-bay.
You could watch for awhile and find one even cheaper.

Of course it could lead to going all out

Sold my old Win 94 to my brother about 5 years ago, and was kicking myself in the butt ever since. Just picked up another Win 94 this summer for a great price. Even though I don't hunt much with it I love to shoot it!

I have a model 94. I love it, but so don't the folks who hunt my land. They are always wanting to borrow "The old cowboy looking one."

I was surprise, I ask my nephew what type of rifle he wanted for his birthday and he replied that he wanted a 30-30. I figured he would want a 30-06 or a .308, cause he is young and believes bigger is better.

It's also a great starter rifle for the kids, low recoil but plenty of poop to kill Deer sized game and even Moose with proper bullets. The Marlin 336Y (youth model) comes to mind. My wife (now ex) had/has a 336Y and loved it, she never shot an Elk with it to my knowledge but she did dump a couple Mule Deer within 100 yds. Great little gun, I may get one for my Daughter when she's old enough (8 or so). I think I'd top it with a 4 power scope like the Weaver classic K series.

I love my 30-30's. Its what I started out with, and moved away from, and what i've moved back too after shooting long range. It brings the thrill back in hunting, and shooting. Its still serious medicine, and I've been able to shoot an elk as well as my largest whitetail to date.

Y'all are crazy. Those things are inaccurate & obsolete. You can't hit anything with them past 50 yards.

Still, a 30-30 rifle occasionally slips through which 'hasn't gotten the word yet'...

The picture does not depict a typical 200 yard group from that particular carbine; they were usually 3-4 times bigger- or slightly larger than the 3" orange dot, depicted above.

Not bad, for a 115 year old design.

Thinking on getting one (Marlin 30-30) for my step son. My first rifle was a savage bolt action 30-30. I curse the day I was dumb enough to get rid of it, that bugger was so accurate. I'd love to find another.

I have many fond memories of hunting with my grand dad's model 94. It put a lot of meat on the table in the last 50 years.

Fast Eddie- I still have a Savage Model 340 bolt action .30-30. I have worked up a load for it using 110gr bullets. I get it up to about 2500fps. I put a 4X scope on it and it shoots as well as any .30-30 I have seen....

I loved that 340, I was so eager to upgrade caliber when that rifle could have handled anything I've hunted since. That was the last gun I traded in. After that, I made a vow to never trade in guns unless I really had to. .

I love my made in 1979 Marlin .30-30, it's actually the biggest caliber rifle I own (besides the 12ga). With Hornady's Leverevolution 160gr it's been very accurate. Mine sports a nice walnut stock and Bushnell 1.5-4.5 scope. This setup will do anything I need out of my rifle.

Gotta love the 30-30. My Marlin is one of my favorite guns. It's a really good pig killer here in east Texas.
