New Remy 11-87 or old 1100 ??

I'm looking for a nice 20ga auto for my Daughters to learn to shoot various backyard, clays presentations with me.
I have a thing for Remingtons so my choices are find and older 1100 LT-20 or get a new 11-87 matte finish with a laminated stock for about the same money.
I have my original 1100 12ga that my Dad gave me on my 11th birthday back in 1974. I'd love to have a companion to it in 20ga, but they are getting hard to find. The 11-87 is brand new and parts are plentiful it it breaks.
Which way would you all go ?

I've had both an 11-87 & a couple of 1100's, and I vote: 1100.
Especially in 20ga, since AFAIK, the 11-87 doesn't use a scaled-down receiver in 20ga.

I wish I still had the 20ga Special Field I stoopidly let slip through my fat fingers.

For nostalgia, alone, I'd go with the 1100; but, be aware of parts availability for the LT-20.

Since a daughter could be the next Kim Rhode, you might look into a modern semiautomatic. In cooperation with youth organizations, Beretta developed a very nice youth model that delivers a lot of features for the price. Have you checked out their 3901 Target RL?

Great choice on the LT-20 and while you are it and if you can find one, look at the upland model. Shorter barrel and eaier to handle for young folks. I am also a fan of the 1100's and would admit that I have never owned an 11-78.

I like the 1100 just because there not in production anymore. I have one in 12 and love it. the 11-87 is also a great gun. I have never owned one but my buddy has about 12 or 13 diffrent shotguns and only takes his 11-87 for ducks or dove. Me personaly id rahter take my 870. Good luck finding what your looking for!!

I have a youth model 1100 20ga from when I was a boy and to this day I love shooting it. Great little gun. However my new gun is a 12ga 11-87 and I cant complain with it either. The only problem was I bumped it one day and it knocked the extractor out but for 20 bucks it was back together in 10 minutes

Thanks for all the replies.
I would never part with my 1100 12ga nor would I want anything to happen to it because it was one of the last gifts my Dad gave to me before he passed away. I only shoot it at clays in the backyard now.
I also have an 11-87 12ga that is my "do all" hunting gun from turkey to duck to deer. It takes all the abuse mother nature and I can dish out and still functions flawlessly.
I think I'll set a time frame of until March 31st. If I havent found a nice LT-20 by then, I'll order the 11-87.

Not to worry, Hog Hunter, your confusion is understandable. The little 1100s were gone, but now they are back. Sorry, no 16-ga.

The new remingtons are bad, buy an old 1100 if you can. You should probably save up for a versamax, maxus, or a benelli.
