AR-15 BCG

I have an all factory Colt LE6920 SOCOM...and one of my pals is trying to convince me that I need a NiB BCG. Other than being easier to clean, are there any other advantages to either a NiB or Chrome BCG? If so, who's the best value?

I need a NiB BCG.

I don't think so. How much do you expect to shoot?

I think they look nice and if was to build another AR, I would get one if only a 20 or so difference in cost. it would e nice to be able to visually see all the dirt as well as being easier to clean. I don't think anyone needs one though, maybe if you were big into slide-fires or shooting 500 rounds a session, it may be nice to have the better lubrication qualities. I have 3 basic bolts with probably around 5k spread across them, I haven't had a broken anything ever.

It's either a "bell" or a "whistle", take your pick. The one that your rifle came with is fine. If you want to save a little cleaning time and that is worth the money to you, buy it.

I've used nickel boron BCG's in a couple of "slick side" uppers. My logic was that those don't have the dust cover so are more likely to collect dirt if over lubed. Since those uppers are meant for target type use, they may get used harder for short periods of time and the NiB may be easier to clean after such use. I bought them in a bulk purchase so they weren't significantly more expensive than other good quality BCG's. They look nice in a slick side upper but looks don't automatically make things work better.

If you are worried about ease of cleaning go buy a ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight, they make quick work of cleaning the BCG.
