making your own hollowpoints on replica cowboy guns

Say a Cimmeron SAA was all you had in your drawer and you wanted to make an effective stopping round out of the lead bullets that you shot out of it?
Would it be effective to take a knife or a drill and carve out a crater on the flat top of the head of the lead bullets that you load? Would that be an effective hollowpoint?

This is a Cimmeron Cowboy Colt .45 Long. I think it is made by uberti. I'm told that I should keep the pressure on the low end and not do smokeless cartridges

Or cut an X with a jewelers hacksaw almost to the brass...

I think theres more to it than just a hole on top....
Like testing, design, more testing, to make an efficient HP.

Why carve up bullets? I have a Cimarron .357 that will shoot whatever .357 round you load in it. You don't have to stick with cowboy loads.

FWIW, my Cimarron .45 will shoot whatever .45ACP I load into the ACP cylinder as well.

I'm with XB on this one. Avoid +P. Normal factory SAAMI cartridges are perfectly safe, including HP/JHPs.

a 250 grain LSWC does not need any alteration. Hit 'em dead center, and watch them fall.
