I have a Sig P226 Navy, want some opinions
I have a 9mm Sig P226 Navy that I bought new in 2009. I like the gun, but don't shoot it much. I don't carry it because it's too heavy and too big and bulky. It's the most accurate gun I have, but I actually like most things about my Glock better, including that it's much lighter and carries 100x better.
So, is there really any good reason for me to hold on to this Sig, because I am considering selling it? This being the Navy model, I can't help but wonder if it'll be something special years down the road....maybe even go up in value...I don't know. But what I do know is that it isn't of much use to me at the moment. And what should I ask for it if I do sell it? It is as perfect as the day it was new. |

Also since you prefer the Glock, it would make no sense to designate the Glock for carry and the Sig for home defense duty since they differ vastly. Main reason being the Glock has a much lower bore axis, if you are used to shooting Glocks, picking up the Sig to use in a pinch might throw you off since they differ so much. Not to mention the triggers and manual of arms for both are completely different. Stick with what you like and what works for you. |

I had to make the same decision about a year ago with my Sig. I sold it and bought myself a G34 shoot just for fun. I don't miss it at all.

I want get into a discussion on Glock vs. Sig here since I do not see this as the essence of your question. I see nothing in the Blue Book of Gun Values as indicating any major price differential between the "Special Edition Pistol" and the other versions. (The Navy is listed as a Special Edition.)
I personally doubt you will see any tremendous price rise of this model as a collectible in the future. It might be of slight more interest to select buyers particularly if they served in the Navy. Just my opinion. |

Is it fun to shoot? If so keep it. Do you need the money? If so sell it. I like the idea of all my guns have a purpose. But I don't mind the label just plain fun if it fits the gun. If you do sell it just knock off 50-100 dollars if its in good condition.

Maybe you just need a better holster for it.

No, don't need the money. It's OK to shoot, I like shooting my G19 and my Taurus PT709 more.
It's nothing to do with holsters...I find it just too heavy, too cumbersome, and too bulky and don't like it on me. I tried a couple good leather holsters, I also tried one of the hard plastic holsters....neither was any good. But that's not the point; I don't want to carry this gun, I have my Glock and Taurus for that. This Sig is just kind of an outcast in my house. I guess it's just more a feeling that if I'm not using it and enjoying it, then maybe I should offer it up. |

It will only be worth more money than any other P226 if it was one of the original Sig Navys released as comparatives. They do not have a rail, have carbon steel slides and serial numbers starting with NSW....
Even then IMHO it needs to be unshot to really be a collector piece. After this original issue they were instant collectible Cohen marketing gimmick guns IMHO. Based on the year you mentioned it is not a NSW gun.

So if I'd put it up for $750 that would be a good price?

Sell it to me. I'm in love with my e2 and I'd love a Navy to my collection. PM me if anything. Maybe we can even trade something.

$750 would be a fair price. If you put it on gun broker it would fetch more than that... these days

I know that I would regret parting with my P226. Unless I was trading for a P210...

Ugh. I've been wanting another 226, specifically either the MK25 or the 226 Combat.
I wish I had the money available. I'd give you $750 for it, if I had it. Good luck, Constantine!

I have two MK25s and would never think of selling them. They're fantastic pistols. Top of the line.
And if you sell one and regret it, the glock would be less expensive and easier to replace. |

But honest to God, I would give it another chance if I were you Viper. That really is an amazing gun. Worst case scenario..You can work something out with a LGS for a G23 and some cash at hand. So there's no waiting. I'm 70% sure I can buy it off you. Then again, we'll discuss that more off the boards if it happens. |

Maybe you should just stop carrying it and use it as a range gun and night stand gun?

This is very true. Glocks and M&P's. Ready for some more weirdness by me? 1911's - range guns. SIG's - self defense and range guns (mainly OWB) Glock's - self defense, range, and competition guns. (IWB & OWB) I kind of hope the OP finds I liking to his SIG. I already pretty much have the same one, and it's one of my favorite shooters. Even though I shoot my Glock's a lot more and carry them mainly. I used to carry that SIG for years. |

Not everyone is the same. So you're incorrect about that. The higher bore axis on the SIG may be harder for someone else to handle. |
