Please tell me who made this shotgun??

I purchased this gun new from a "Wards"store in the mid 60's.
I want to have some work done to it and would like to know who
made it . The following information is stamped into the barrel:

HAWTHORNE VIKING
MONTGOMERY WARD & CO-458
ACTION MADE IN FRANCE
12GA.-2 3/4 CHAM.-MOD.

I would like to have another barrel for it. I don't know who makes a replacement barrel that will drop in. Any and all information will be appreciated.

Need more info. Is there a model number?, is it 458? All the shotguns listed in my Gun Parts Corp. catalog sold by Wards were made by either Mossberg or Noble. I know nothing about Noble so it might be your French maker. If it happens to be a model 110 then the maker is unknown. If you have more info let me know.

schild,Thanks for the information. I think that the "458"is the "Wards model #",This is only my assumption.

It has a stamp on top of the barrel- a letter"P"inside a circle.

It has the numbers"5546"stamped on the frame,by the loading chute. This could be a model or a serial number.

It is pump action, with a single slide rail. It has a 28" barrel.

This was my first pump action rabbit and quail gun. I have none of the original papers or the box.

That is about all that I know about it.

Noble not French.....tis American outfit.

Mossberg not above importing, I do know they sold guns and parts made by Howa......never heard of a French connection tho.

Sam.....curious

The barrel makes the "French connection". If only the action was made in France, why would they even bother informing us of that fact. It may have been an import requirement. If only the action was imported then they may have used whatever they had on hand for the other components and parts.

I also know nothing about "Noble"

C.R.SAM said that "Noble"was a USA company-That is good enough for me.

schild and C.R.Sam,
Thank you both for your help

5546 is probably the serial number. If you can find any more info here is the place to look and possibly get parts.
