Browning Auto 5

I recently inherited a Belgian made Browning Auto 5, on the left side of the action is inscribed Magnum and on the barrel it says 3" Special Steel, if I understand correctly this is referring to the materiel the barrel is made from and to NOT shoot steel loads through it?

Ok, is there a way I can get a barrel that can have steel shot put through it? This gun was going into my collection as my water fowl gun, or if there is any "non-toxic" loads that I can shoot water fowl with that will be fine for this barrel? It does say 3" on the barrel so that leads me to believe it can only shoot 3" high base shells, I made the mistake of shooting low base quail loads through it and it wouldn't cycle the bolt fully

The Japanese 'Invector' barrels will handle steel (if you can find one)...

Otherwise, Kent's Tungsten Matrix, Nice Shot, Hevishot's Classic Doubles (not the hard TINT Hevishot), all can be used safely in that barrel for waterfowling...

Most folk with Auto5s simply pick up a spare Japanese barrel. If you hunt around on the auction sites, you can usually find a decent deal if you're willing to be patient.

I'm pretty sure you can shoot low brass 2 3/4" shells; you just need to change the position of the rings under the forearm.

Go to Browning website and...

under service you can download ".pdf" for the Magnum, A-5.

Also you can get the year made from "Date your firearm" menu.

Use regular barrel for no-tox shells IF the choke in "MOD" or less.
