Fiocchi ammo and brass

I was thinking of ordering a case of Fiocchi .45ACP from ammoman.com, but I've never fired Fiocchi ammo and I'm not sure of it's quality (I'm getting 230grFMJ just for target shooting). Also, I figured it would be a good way to start collecting .45 brass for reloading. Any comments on the quality of their brass?

I have used it for practice rounds and now for reloading. It seems ok in 45acp. Nothing special. I think it is a bit thick compared to remington, but not as bad as PMC or such.

Is thick brass bad somehow?

I don't think thick is necessarily bad ... but if the outer dimensions are set in sizing, then the case will have a reduced capacity ... which eats up a little of the safety margin in your loads ... if all your brass is Fiocchi, then the loads you work up should be fine ... I don't even "know" that the Fiocchi is thick :> ) I bought a case of Fiocchi in .40S&W from bulkammo.com and love it ... and reload it!

The only Fiocchi ammunition that I've used is their speciality stuff. It is certainly better than nothing but, well, the quality seemed to vary all over the place. Some was near perfect. Some wasn't.

For reloading .45ACP, my brass order of preference is as follows, by headstamp; (best to worst)

S&B - consistent brass, tightest primer pockets
R*P - good quality
'Triangle' 9x - South African, good quality
Federal (and FC 9x) - some 'crimped' primers
PMC - okay quality
TZZ - Fiocchi
Hornandy - usually Starline, but don't see too many
CorBon - sometimes bulged (+P loading)
Anything else - range brass and practice reloads only.

If I can't identify a full 50 round box of brass, I don't reload for it for IDPA competition - a friend gets it as 'guaranteed to fire once' ammo. HTH,

thick brass does not eat up any saftey margin. thick brass, as in military brass will:

a. hold more pressure
b. neccesitate less powder for the same results as thin brass due to decreased case capactiy.

No flame intended!

My fiocchi is fine ammo, I have not loaded any of the brass good shooting.
