I remember the first time i cleaned a gun. Was an M16 issued from my ROTC department that had been used and abused by the MA national guard. Took about an hour and a half to get all the carbon out of it.
Congrads though, there will be plently more opportunities for cleaning as you will soon find out |

I got an FN AR because i wanted a semi-auto 308 and the m1a's were out of stock everywhere. My dad is LEO and has a moderate collection of rifles so i have shot mini-14, Enfield, sks for my first time a few weeks ago.
next time i'm not broke i will be buying a more modest gun, lol. this forum is very helpful. |

Composer,
Welcome to the wonderful world of firearms ownership ... you will find the shooting community to be incredibly diverse and complex with a great many cross sections representing every walk of life. You will also find that nearly every stereotype regards firearms to be incorrect - enjoy! Best, Tiki.

Welcome to the world of firearms, and TFL. Now as a rule you must post a picture of that rifle. ..... Everyone on TFL loves a nice picture of a firearm. Congrats.

Excuse the mess it's just me and my friend living here, lol. The gun was expensive and its kind of ugly and has a sub-par stock but i got it for the power and performance it supposed to shoot an 1" or better. I just my gun cleaning kit and ammo so i should be taking it to the range soon.

Cleaning a gun is definitely a great way to learn its workings and components, first gun I ever cleaned was one of those Nagant revolvers. I was terrified of taking apart something I didn't know much of anything about, even though for cleaning purposes it breaks down into only 3 pieces. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it back together again and somehow ruin it, or I'd put it together wrong, and render it dangerous to use. Once I tried it, I realized there was nothing to it, and that (most) guns aren't 5000-piece jigsaw puzzles that once you break down you spend forever trying to get it together again.

Congrats. The FNAR's are nice accurate rifles. They are bit harder to field strip than an M14 but are good rifles for the money.
