Ruger 10/22 Takedown Range Review

The Ruger 10/22 has to be the most recognized 22 rifle known to man. The 10/22 has been in production for 5 decades with no indication of slowing down. During it's long history there has been over 30 models produced by Ruger. It may also be one of the most modified rifles in US history right up there with the AR15. Rugers latest addition to this long lineage is the Ruger 10/22 Takedown better known as Ruger 10/22 TD released in March of 2012.

I need your help with this review. Stop by http://www.dayattherange.com/?p=2704 and leave comments to convince my shooting buddy Darrel to loan me his Browning Takedown for a comparison.

If you go by numbers sold sure.

Yes Marlin 60 11 Million, Ruger 10/22 5 Million

Marlin 9 Models, Ruger 30 models.

True non scientific test
Ask my neighbor whom hates gun what each is while holding both within seconds she calls out the 10/22 that other one I have no idea, it was a Marlin Glenfield 60

That's a good looking rifle. What kind of scope do you have on it?

Quoted from the review

"The 10/22TD case will support a receiver with a scope attached but it will have to be one that’s relatively short in length or perhaps one with detachable scope rings. I found a 4x Leupold FX-1 fits nice an snug, on the factory provided scope base"

It is a real pleasure to shoot, to not do anything else to it and have it shoot this well just equals a ton of fun.

Those are some nice groups.

But why is the bottom right target not shot?

The Marlin 60 may have outsold the Ruger by 2:1, but I'd bet there are more Rugers still in use by about a 2:1 factor. I've worn out a couple of the Marlins, haven't been able to do that with a Ruger yet.

I've got one of the TD rifles. I've not scoped it yet but that is a winter project now that hunting season is slowing down. Thinking about a compact 1-4X so it will fit in the case.

I got a great deal on the Leupold FX-I 4x28mm Rimfire Rifle Scope locally it was actually cheaper than what Optics Planet wants for one. It is a very nice and clear scope. Of course there are some way cheaper but not many this size and quality which would fit in the bag.

I picked up a 10/22TD the other day at the gun store. I could feel some play in it where the halves were joined together. Is this something that you adjust out as needed, or something you have to live with? I would not be interested in it if I could not tighten it up to some degree. Noticeable slop could do accuracy no good.

Not being rude but the manual tells you how to adjust, I also mention it in my article.

Excuse me, Sir, I just picked the rifle up and looked at it. The manual was not attached to it, and the store was so full of customers I was not willing to wait 30 minutes to ask someone. I have not yet read your article. I felt safe asking a simple question. So sorry to offend...

Dude relax you did not offend I said I was not being rude that was not my intent.

There is a very simple way to adjust the barrel to receiver fit.

If you have a line on a dozen or so BX-25's I would happily take them off your hands.

I local shop has a ton of them but they are limiting them to 2 per person per month which i am ok with. It gives others a chance and keep others from taking them and selling them.
