It's an FN 5.7!

Ordered at a Cabelas in late December, 2012, and it just arrived. It will be my wife's first pistol, and she's quite happy about it.

I'm sure she'll stop being happy when you see ammo prices for that thing.

Honestly, I contemplated buying a 57 vs a HK45 full size. The ammo thing made the decision for me.

It's a very nice shooting gun. Your wife will like it. Ammo has been tough to find lately, not just the 5.7 of course, but the 5.7 seemed to disappear early on in the madness.

Enjoy your new FN.

Fortunately, we've already got five boxes of ammunition ($24.95 per 50 cartridges). Getting additional ammunition will be a treasure hunt, but I'm sure it will become available over the course of the year. This is to be her gun as she liked it so much, and with the ammo we have, she'll get to shoot it enough to feel that it's her gun (which is important to me). We also have a .22 revolver to shoot (my father's old Hi Standard), so it's not as if the 5.7 would be our only choice (even if it will be the more desirable choice).

I love mine as well, but I gave up on trying to find ammo and just started to load my own.

There was just a thread about someone only being able to find ammo at $130 for 50 rounds of ammo.

Good luck finding more ammo at $0.50 per round. Expect more to $1-2 per round if you do find it. Once you are out of ammo, will end up being $20-40 per clip to shoot it.

Save your brass and reload them, its honestly going to be worth it to start reloading if you don't already.

That being said, it is supposed to be a really awesome firearm. If ammo were available, and 1/4 of the cost I would consider owning one, but neither is the case.

CurlyQ, neat gun. I had the use of one for several months and could have purchased it for a very reasonable price. Wish I had. Very reliable, accurate, flat shooting, less recoil than a .380, etc. I chronographed 30 rounds of the FN SS192 ammo, averaged 2025 fps! LGS here still has ammo, about $50.00/Box I think...

Update: Looking at the 5.7, we found out that it is not the new MK2, and it will cost us 120% of what it would have three months ago. So it's last years model at this years prices. It's ours to take until Wednesday. We'll see.

Over MSRP for an older version and there's no ammo available.

Sell the 5.7 ammo you currently have at a profit and get yourself 2 or 3 45ACP FNX's.

Curly, I would highly recommend you find another pistol. Not only is the gun grossly overpriced, but the 5.7 round isn't exactly 'plinker friendly' being so scarce and high priced.

I had a Five-seveN and loved it. However ammo scarcity and price made me decide to sell it. I wasnt comfortable reloading it so off it went. Great gun but I'm cheap as hell, now I only buy what I reload, 9mm, 38spl and 357mag.

Strongly recommend you find something else. If the gun is to be used for defense, you need to shoot all your ammo to guarantee reliability, if not more. Get a 9mm, you have a world of choices, there will be one she likes.

Decision has been made: we won't purchase it. And by the way, thanks for all your advice.

I love mine but it is hard to argue for it when its stupid expensive right now and ammo is damn impossible to find if you don't roll your own.

Too bad Curly. I love mine, and ammo is once again becoming available- just like every other caliber. Not cheap, but worth it in my book.

Perhaps the next 5.7 I order will not be as expensive as this one. If the price of ammo is dropping, then perhaps the price of the pistol itself will as well. I do know that they are currently advertised for $1075 (none available at that price though) on the Internet.

Please tell me where you find .22 ammo.

I gladly sold my FiveseveN Pistol and PS90 last year. Even before the shooting in CT, 5.7X28 was so scarce and so damn expensive for such a "eh" round that I traded 'em off.

My M&P 15 22 is every bit as fun to shoot as the PS90 was, except that I don't whince everytime I send a round down range with dollar signs rolling in my eyes.

The pistol was loud but very low recoil, and I guess that if I really wanted that kind of a thrill, I'd drop $700-$800 on the $300 KelTec PMR 30, which is about 3/4 of the price of a FiveseveN pistol at MSRP.

The debates will never end between the .22 Mag and the 5.7 X 28...all I can tell you is that at least .22 Mag is at least slightly more available and significantly cheaper than 5.7 X 28.

Count your lucky stars that you decided to pass on that gun. IF you had the chance to buy one 2 months ago for that price, you'd have been better to buy it and turn it around at a great profit.

Bought .22 ammo at a Farm & Fleet app. $8.** for 100 rounds pack. Have also seen it at gun shows in recents weeks (though not as cheap).

unfortunately, you can no longer buy the ammo that that gun was designed around. the stuff that is available now is the wrong bullet weight and performs horribly.

if you can find the original grain ammo, that thing is a beast.

SmokinSigs357, I can understand why you sold/traded your 5.7. As for us, we really wanted the 5.7, but app. $375 (FFL fee included here) more for it as compared to December really was the deciding factor. Also, it didn't help any when they said they had no ammo and did not know when any would be available, but the 120% increase in the cost of the 5.7 (and not even being the MK2) was a solid dose of reality. I would rather have that premium go to someone needy than to overpay it on a firearm.

loose_holster_dan, What you say is true, but my wife really didn't care about not being able to get the full power loads (I would have liked to though).

Very nice gun. Congrats!

Ammo is sky high, though. I did sell some rounds on gun broker when I saw what they were going for. Wow.

Hopefully the availability comes back to normal soon.
