pocket 40s

I once had a Glock 27. I also had a 26. Decided I didn't need both so as a test I fired both at multiple targets. The 9mm was much faster followup so I traded the 40 for something I wanted more.

I wish I had not. Its like a pocket 357 only with double the firepower of the j frame or sp101. Although baby Glocks are not easy to pocket carry, I do when I can wear baggy shorts on the weekend.

I almost bought an all steel Kahr MK40 elite but passed because I was afraid the recoil would be too much. But maybe if all you have on tap is 5 or 6 rounds, it ought to be a 40 or 357.

Any other thoughts or opinions on pocket 40s?

When I think pocket, I am thinking P238, 938(not sure if Id pocket 1911 style), P290, LCP, P-3AT, and Im sure there are others. Not saying a G27 or the like is not doable. But not very pocket friendly, and this is just my opinion.

I have a Sig 239 in .40, works very well for me. I dont have the issue with control that I had with a Glock 27

I didn't realize they made a P239 in .40. I thought they were all 9mm. That does sound like a excellent choice for large caliber CCW if they're same size as the 9mm.

The P239 is available in 9mm, .40 and 357 SIG. The 40/357 has a slightly taller and heavier slide. Other than that, they are about the same size. The P239 is a pretty big gun for pocket carry for me, but appendix or hip its fine. It is also an outstanding shooter in all three calibers.

If you get the .40, you can do a barrel swap and shoot 357 SIG, so, its a nice option. The .40 mags will work, but, for defensive use, I would get dedicated 357 SIG mags. there is a little ridge in the 357 SIG mags to keep the bottleneck cartige aligned a little better.

If the mk40 after try one is to hard to control , forget any other real pocket sized 40 sw pistol. Many guys shoot the lighter cm/pm40. Step up in size to the cw/ p 40 kahr or shield sized pistols and iwb it. Not really a pocket pistol when there that size unless you have cargo pocket

I had a Kahr CM40, shot very well. It recoiled more than the CM9 I had prior, but it certainly wasn't uncontrollable. Carried very well in a Remora pocket holster!

S&W Shield or Walther PPS
