The bulge I'm getting is more pronounced with lead, but it happens with Hornady JHPs too. Don't get it when I work with my .44 mag and dies, interestingly enough.

Is the case bulge visible with all makes of brass or one brand specifically? I noticed some of my cases will show a slight bulge where the base of the bullet stops inside of the case. Not all cases though. I get a bulge with one type case. (Sorry, I don't recall the manufacturer.) They all dropped into my case gauge and they all shot well regardless of the slight bulge.

If the case "mikes" within specs I would say it is an issue with case wall thickness. I use Hornady dies with a separate taper crimp die.

All kinds of brass exhibit this; Winchester, PMC, etc. I'm wondering if my resizing die is just a little on the "tight" side... I'm waiting on a taper crimp die to get here so I can see if that helps.

It could very well be a "tight" sizing die. I get a bulge on all my 40 S&W cases. I have a special "undersized" (made by LEE) sizing die that I use to load my 40 S&W. I use this die to get the bulge out of "Glocked" brass.(Cases fired in Glocks are notorious for a hugh bulge in front of the case rim. The undersize die takes care of the Glock bulge)

I would not worry about your "bulge" as long as the finished cartridge drops in and out of a standard case gage. BTW, EGW makes a slick case gage that gages 4 different cases; 9mm, 38 Super, 40 S&W and 45 ACP.

I love my LNL! Would not trade it for ANY other AP press!

If the taper crimp die doesn't help, I'll probably borrow my friends' .45 resizing die (it's probably Lee) and see if I get the same bulge, if not, I'll call Hornady and see about getting a properly sized die.

Am I doing something wrong? I have one hard time getting my LnL to seat the primers without crunching them. It seems the primers don't (can't) all the way to the primer pocket. never ha that problem wth my Dillons.

What kind of primers are you using? I've had no problems with Winchester or Magtech (haven't tried any others) in my LnL... you may want to take the primer tube assembly / slide apart, and clean it well, lube with graphite... if you get some stray gunpowder, etc. in the punch area, I suppose it could cause it to seat them off kilter (I have had the primer feed slide get stuck when that happens, and it's due to my own clumsiness).

Thanks, I suspected as much but it was this way out of the box. I had so many problems with my foprmer Projector model that I thought Hornady still didn't quite get the primer feed concept yet. Nop problems with the blue machines. Thanks again. Flinters

Sorry it took so long to answer. I forgot to check the notification option and just forgot to come back, too.
Anyhoo, for .45 ACP I use RCBS dies that I've had for a while and a Lee taper crimp die to finish with. If we're talking about the same thing that little bulge where the bullet is seated is normal. As long as it fits in the case gage I wouldn't worry about it because I doubt anything can be done about it. The Lee crimp die used in station 5 does rub the ejector wire a little but it doesn't stop it so I just press on with it.

Your indexing pawls could be slightly out of adjustment causing your press to go out of time. Call Hornady and they will walk you through it.

Thanks DIXIEDOG it's better to know I can call Hornady. I would sweat blood if I tried to adjust those things by myself. Good to know. I did what DEDON45 suggested and I am getting better centering of the primer.

The manual also does a fairly good job of explaining how to adjust the pawls, if needed. Mine's in time right now, clicking along.
