The Firing Line...Too Politically Correct?

This is only my second post to The Firing Line. I heard on another list that this site is very politically correct. Knowing one of the moderators I tend to disbelieve. What do you all think?

The Firing Line has to be the best RKBA site I have seen. You can discuss any legal RKBA topic here. Threads are only locked if they are inappropriate, off topic, offensive, or discussing illegal activity. I give Rich two thumbs up.

Too politically Correct?

You are actually joking and don't mean this seriously right? The only thing politically correct around this place is... is... is :barf:
Well OK that is just what I think of political correctness!

This board enforces it's posted rules and policies. Very consistently, I might add. Grownups here.

What Sensop said....
Actually, there are a whole bunch of written and unwriitten rules around here:
- You may not flame a Member's religion, political persuasion, personality or mental agility....but you may take issue with their thought process or logic.
- You may not promote illegal activity....but you can tell your CongressCitters to "Bite Me"....and suggest that Treason is a Capital Offense.
- You may not spam the board with advertising messages, but you can post wares for sale in the buy/sell forums.
- You may not post your views about abortion, but you can do everything else in your power to make this nation's children safe.
- You may not paint an entire group of our citizen-cops as NeoNazi's....but you can point to specific instances in which LEO's should be tried and jailed.
- You may post something that you'll later regrest, but you can not expect us to remove those words once you've calmed down........

Actually, there's lots more "politically correct" rules around here....but they're all covered under the concept of "civil discourse" as taught by our parents. That probably rules out 80% of the population.

Welcome to TFL, njoe.....I've got a strong feeling you'll be a keeoer!

In reality, we are just about as politically correct as it is possible to get. The problem is that that term has come to mean something different these days. Our politics and ideas on politics and politicians is spot on correct.

If, by politically correct, you mean we don't call each other %$(*&$)9 or (%*^()&$)(&^% or someone's mother a )(*^$()$*& of &*$OP*%)^% and the horse she %)&^%*_(&$# in on, that doesn't mean we're politically correct.

It means that we can, for the most part, frame arguments, rebuttals, and points with logical, cogent thoughts instead of reverting to an exercise in "who can put the most F-words in a single sentence."

I've visited some of the other "unpolitically correct" forums. I've found the profanity to be expansive (and I'm a pretty profane guy!) and cogent thought processes to be sadly lacking.

I'll be the first to admit that I've had my chain yanked a couple of times when I've gotten out of hand, and I'll also be the first to admit that it was entirely appropriate for me to be castigated.

Do I feel that I've been stepped on by the politcal correctness police?

Nope.

Do I feel like I've had my "First Amendment Rights" violated? Don't make me laugh, that's not even an issue on a private, non-governmentally regulated board.

Do I feel like I've broken the established forum policies and rules? Well, maybe not EVERY time, but hey, I can live with that.

I think that there are a lot of people who simply can't recognize the difference between civil and polite discourse and political correctness. They are not related.

That is a sad fact.

Njoelhickson, welcome to The Firing Line. Glad to have you aboard.

We have had some spirited discussions here, and there is no doubt that we will have many more. (An afternoon's use of the 'Search' function will turn up some real humdingers. )

What some people refer to as 'political correctness' or 'infringing on the First Amendment' is our preference for civilized and courteous debate. Simply put, we ask that subjects be debated as if someones 94 year-old grandparent or six year-old child is reading the threads.

Again, welcome to TFL.

No TFL ie really not! You can have a great time without porno, swear words, and flame wars. AR15.com had become real bad when some members started posting sick pornography that went way over the line, I mean some super vile crap that would make most normal people sick to the stomach. Needless to say they have kicked the offenders and somewhat cleaned up the board.

Bottom line is that TFL is the best forum online and the Staff does what's right to keep it that way!

Sounds like I will like it here. I have been over at Frugal Squirrel for several years and figured I would give The Firing Line a try as well. I have an old friend who is a moderator on one of the boards. He recommended it a while ago.

Nathan,

Glad you managed to stumble into this nest-o-snakes.

Guys, Mr Hickson is one of those damn head-in-the-clouds almost-got-Gore-elected Loonitarians (like someone else you know). He's a soldier, a family man, and one of the few people I'd want beside me in a jackpot situation.

Ken! It's good to hear from you. And I would be proud to back you up in a firefight any day.

Have you heard who hopes to run for governer next year as a Libertarian? Bob Glass. He is not just a talker..but a doer as well.

I'll support him!

In Liberty,

Nathan

What this TFL makes different is, that about 99 per cent of the members have COMMON SENSE, something that got lost in the last ten years.

Instead of MOLON LABE, I will pray that our nation comes again to its senses and say in plain English: COMMON SENSE

I cherish all soldiers that gave their lives and health in the Revolution-, Civil-, WW I-, WW II-, Korea-, Vietnam- and other wars.

America is a great Nation and WE WILL VOTE ALL THE CROOKS OUT OF OFFICE.

njoelhickson . . . I trust you are joking

What my friends Sam, Mike and George said!

I have been accused of many things, but "PC" certainly is not one of them. However, respect, civility, honest interchange of ideas, and sharing of knowledge all abound on TFL, for which I am profoundly grateful.

How did I know that if somebody comes up wondering if TFL of all places is too P.C., and he has a friend among the mods, that friend would have to be Coinneach?

I prefer to describe this site as proper and respectful and not PC.
