3 gun is too much fun

I shot my first 3 gun match last weekend. Man was that some fun. I am a handgun guy so I had to borrow the shotgun and rifle.
I used my SA Champion, Remington 1100, and .223 romanian Ak.
The matches we have hear are pretty informal but the courses of fire are set up by some semi pro shooters and some regular old joe blow who show up early.
Now I am looking to round out my collection with a rifle and shotgun to compete with.
I may get a be getting a job California(I know, I know) so the rifle must PC. I was thinking about an M1 carbine. All our stages are 100 yards or less.
Any other ideas?

You need an 1100 or an M1, and an AR to be competitive. Is California OK with post bans? If not, there are lots of job opportunities in Colorado- lots of 3-gun, too.

Some 3 gun matches make a distinction between autos and pumps. Just as many make a distinction between optically enhanced SGs and rifles vs non optically enchanced.

FWIW - you will never beat a good SG shooter with an auto that functions. However, just because a guy has an auto doesn't mean he will be faster. It comes down to the shooter.

I am confined to the People's Democratic Socialist Republic of California also.

SKS's are still legal in some formats. Reloading from a stripper clip can be very quick if you learn how.
I like M1 Carbines, but the real GI ones are more and more expensive all the time. I still haven't decided about any of the new ones.
Depending on how many shots must be fired, a pistol caliber lever gun can be very effective out to 100 yards.

Shotguns... I have to buy another shotgun myself.
I'll probably stick with a pump, either a Mossberg or a Remington 870.
