Good book/s about old west era guns & ammo?

I do not have any black powder guns or participate in cowboy action shooting, and my interest is purely from a historical/entertainment standpoint. I'm interested in guns and cartridges from the civil war through the late 1800's. I'd like something with a lot of visuals and some ballistic data as opposed to page after page of text.

Does anyone have recommendations?

thanks for the suggestion. I see that the same author also has separate books on lever guns and buffalo rifles, which I'd also like to read about. Looks a bit pricey to get all three though.
