Lot of money to cut one or two dovetails. You can do it by hand if you're careful. http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fu...arch/1/#572708

Guess I'm old and tired, so I use my milling machine. Start with 1/4 in. square bottom end mill and finish with dovetail cutter and a tiny little file.

Why do you use the end mill before the dovetail cutter?

End mills are better for hogging out material, don't dull as readily and are easier to sharpen and/or cheaper to replace than dove tail cutters.

That is my experience. I am NOT a machinist.
