How am I doing on my Guide Gun ???
I bought this 45-70 carbine lightly used last year... then I added the big loop lever & "bear proof" ejector from WILDALASKA... the custom butt cuff & sling are from LEVERGUN Leather Works
the gun was ported from the factory, & came with a green factory fiber optic front sight... after I figure out what I want for sights for sure ( I think I want the Williams Fire Sights ghost ring rear ( comes with green fiber optic dots flanking a ghost ring... & likely a red or orange fiber optic rod in the front sight ) then the gun will be done... I was originally thinking about a black stock ( truck bed liner or ??? ) butt I'm liking the look of the walnut with the leather added... think I'll keep it wood hows it look ???

Looks good! If you must have A black stock find some beater wood. You may want the Walnut back someday.
Oh and you can send that scrap leather to me for proper disposal. |

The 45-70 Guide Gun is an incredible carbine. I have fired the ported model and didn't like it much. I am glad I was able to find a newer unported.
Don't forget to get some loading gear for that beast. |

I love it!
Tell me about the larger loop handle on the lever. I've got a .450 Marlin that is in a similar state of "upgrade." I was planning on leaving the lever alone, though. |

The leather is really nice, your LEVERevolution ammo looks a little out of place, lol.
Is the lever for gloved hands or just your preference? I have never liked them much but a friend of mine swears by his for cold weather hunting. As I have never used my lever guns for cold weather I really can’t say either way. I like the idea of you keeping it scope free. I'd keep it stocked with the walnut but if you want black then I would go with a synthetic stock set. Nice levergun MWM. |

Put in a WWG one piece Happy Trigger. It'll reduce the trigger pull and make it very crisp.

the lever I got from WILDALASKA here on this forum ( Wild West Guns I believe )... it was drop in... there is one "other" brand, I forget the maker, & I don't think they make a stainless one ??? I'm not unhappy with the stock trigger, but could probably get talked into the WWG's trigger if it's really that much better
I have pretty big hands, & can only scrunch 4 fingers into the big loop lever, but could do 3 fingers even with gloves... & yes it can be very cold up here during deer season Leverevolution... yep.. out of place... I'll begin loading 45-70 for load deveopement this winter for my 4 - 45-70's... most all will likely be cast bullets... the cartridges that stay in the loops will also be nickle plated... I would have prefered one without ports, but my 14" Contender barrel is ported, so I knew what kind of muzzle blast I'd get from this gun... it's actually a little "tamer" than the Contender... but I got it for several hundred less than a new one, & as able to put it on lay away at my local toy store... so I "settled" for the ported model

it shoots pretty good with factory ammo, I don't have much for handloads in 45-70 loaded right now... this year I workd on reloads for small cartridges ( mostly 17 K Hornet, 5.7 X 28, & 22 Hornet ) I was also going to work on 223, but I was not happy with the scope on my Contender carbine barrel, so I put off 223 until later... I can't hardly wait till this winter, when I start doing a big load developent project for the bigger cartridges ( my hands are really getting tired of futzing with the little cases ) 35 Remington & 45-70, 50 A.E, & 50-70 will for sure be on the menu... I'm also doing a 577 snider project, but will likely not be ready to load that one this winter... for 45-70's I have a 14" Contender, this Marlin Carbine, one of the Remington Spartan double rifles, & a custom "safari" Martini built with a light weight octogon 458 win mag barrel, rechambered to 45-70 ( a little faster twist rate than most 45-70's ) that one has 3 leaf safari sights that need to be regulated yet... all 4 will take different loads, so by next summer I'll be doing alot of target & chrony work with the 45-70's I should end up with something that spanks game & shoots the best possible groups for all 4 guns by the time I get done ( I also have several 22 Hornets, & by the time I get done with that load developement project I will have tried between 150 - 200 different powder bullet & primer combinations looking for what works best in each fire arm... I'll be doing the same with the 45-70's )

Nice rifle. I have a 18" GG and did the same thing to it. WWG big loop lever, and the Blackhawk buttcuff/cheekpad. A Willams peep sight. I did add the Happy trigger kit from WWG and oh my god is that trigger sweet! You just think about shooting it and it goes off.
Collected a nice Muley with it last October with a 400gr FP from Lyman mould and backed by RL-7 |

I would try to get a cocking lever that matches the blue of the gun

I think it looks great. It don't need a high polish to fret over, pfft.
My blue one don't match. The deer didn't care... |

this is the sights I'm thinking about ( these are on my 45 Colt Contender barrel ) note the red front sight... ( I'd change out the front fiber optic rod/ front sight on the guide gun )
this is the rear sight ( better pic, not on my gun ) the winged front post / rear ghost ring ( from Brockmans I think ) are interesting, but seem like over kill
