OK, I'm ready to replace my trusty old Mossberg 500 with a bright, not-so-shiny ninja-squirrel semi-auto shotgun. I LOVE the way the 11-87 Police feels, but have no experience with one. I can't afford a Benelli, so can anyone tell me about reliability on the Remington?

The 1187 is an excellent choice for a defensive shotgun. It is reliable, and is significantly easier on the operator after extended use. The action is smooth and when properly dressed (speedfeed short stock, sidesaddle, forend light) performs with the best of them.

Nyterunner,
Hey there, I'm currently the proud owner of a Remington 11-87P. So, far I love this SG. However, I'll admit I only have 2 boxes through mine as I haven't had enough time to break it in and put some serious hurt on it. People either seem to love'em or hate'em. However, I notice most who bash them are Benelli fan(atics) who've never owned one. Personally I like both, but prefer American and steel receivers. Anyway, my only concern is the supposed use of MIM (metal injection molded parts) which I believe I've read are used for some parts in these. If you know much about MIM parts they're slated as everything from complete █████ to the greatest thing since sliced bread (if done properly). Personally, I'm not completely decided yet. I plan on running 50 rounds through mine tommorow. I know this isn't much, but I'll report back tommorow late pm on what happened with everything from slugs to heavy and light (tactical) buck loads. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable about what goes into these SGs can give us the lowdown on any MIM parts used in the guts of 11-87P. DR |

I have had mine for a few years now and think it is great. I have put MMC sights on it and the barrel is going off to Vang Comp to get done also. Desert Rat, I also have a Benelli M3 S90 but prefer the 11-87P.

NJW,
Just FYI...if you use birdshot in your 11-87P, getting the Vang barrel mods may cause your shotgun to no longer function well with birdshot. Rosco |

If you were gunning for a Benelli to start with, how about a Beretta 1201FP? Dealer price is around $380-420, street price around $460-500.

The problem with the Beretta 1201 is that it kicks like a mule. Try taking a 3 or 5 day shotgun class and after the first 50 rounds of 00 buck you will know what I mean. Even my huge Orange County Deputy buddy sold his 1201 and used it towards an 1187, which by comparison is a dream to shoot.

I have a 11/87 from Scattergun Technologies and I'm very happy with it. It's the K9 model. Have put a Surefire light on it but haven't tested it yet.

Tim, I'll have to take your word for it. I am scheduled to take a 3 day shotgun class in August and I will use my Benelli M1S90 Tactical.
Incidentally, the instructors require that you bring 400 rounds of birdshot, 70 rounds of buckshot and 70 rounds of slugs. And a PAST recoil pad! Justin ------------------ Justin T. Huang, Esq. late of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania |

Can't possibly have more recoil than a pump shotgun, right? (That's a question, but I know what my guess would be.) Justin, where are you going for the course? |

Insights Training Center is holding its three day defensive shotgun course at the West Shore Sportsmen's Club in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in August. I hope I can make it -- I may have to bag out because a college roommate is getting married.
