Remington Model 17 Barrels

Hi Folks!

I recently stumbled into pretty little Remington Model 17 shotgun with a checkered stock and two barrels, one Full and one Modified. Two questions:

- Both barrels have the same serial number -- 154xx, date code ON -- but the receiver has a different serial number -- 650xx. So can I assume that these are not the original barrels?

- Does the checkered stock indicate a higher grade than standard?

Thanks!
Dave
