.308 Ball Powder/Recipe

From the search I've done it seems IMR-4895 seems to be the most used. I believe thats a "stick" type powder and I haven't had the best luck using that type of powder in my lyman powder dump.

Whats a good ball powder? I've got 748, 760 and H380 on hand but have had a heck of time finding a good recipe for any of these powders. How about BLC-2? or something else.

Since I've got major server troubles these last few days, any of the search engines are taking up to 20 minutes to shoot back a result. Took 15 minutes just to get to this page today.

Thanks guys.

Cain R,
I'm almost positave that BLC-2 was designed for the 308. I havent used any so I do not know how well it works.
www.hi-techammo.com has bulk military pulldown powder at great prices but I'm not sure of the shipping requirements into Canada.

Win 748 and H380 are great powders for .308 Win. Win 760 also possible but I've not used it myself. Data available at www.winchester.com and
www.hodgdon.com and south of the border the powder manufacturers' data pamphlets are available free at most shops that handle smokeless propellants, as well as the larger data manuals for sale.

I've had excellent results with H335 in both .308 and .223.

Cain, what weight bullet? I've used IMR 4895 and 150 gr bullets with okay results.

Here's a combo I know works: IMR4064 and a 168 gr HPBT. Saturday, my slow fire prone at 200 (600 yd simulated) was 195-5X. And that was while a diagonal shadow (from the top board on the target frame) was moving across the target and I was cranking in left windage every few shots trying to hold the ten ring. I'm not a big ball powder fan. sundog

BLC-2 is most excellent with 150 and 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips.

I had excellent results using WC-846, a surplus Winchester (Olin) military ball powder. LC Match brass, Winchester standard large rifle primers and FA Match bullets, or the old, no longer available Winchester 168 grain flat base match bullets. This was used in a couple of bolt rifles, 41 or 42 grain charges.

According to correspondence I once had with the Winchester plant at St. Marks, Florida, they said that 846 fell between H-335 and BLC-2.

WC846 also worked in 223 Remington, with 55 grain bullets.
