Bent Mag Ext tube SPX 930?
Hey Guys,
I recently bought an SPX 930. I was loading and unloading shells to get the feel of it and see how the gun works when I noticed it jammed when taking out shells two from full. After it jams you can twist the ext. tube a little and hear the spring release. So I dismantled the gun and noticed the mag tube is bent and that is causing the shells to hang up. So I called Mossberg and had them send me a new mag ext. tube. I received it and it's also bent! However this one seems to cycle shells without jamming... but it still bothers me that once it's on it doesn't line up parallel to the barrel. This is my first shotgun so I am not sure if this is normal or is Mossberg quality control not up to par? Thanks for any insight you can provide! |

Mossberg didn't make the tube extension. It's made by Choate.

Oh right... I forgot about that. Is this normal for Choate? Do any other SPX owners out there have the same problem?

Overall Choate makes a good mag tube but they do have some quality control issues. I have received a few that were silver soldered in the base crooked. It's very usually that you would get two in a row. Call Choate and see if they will replace it for you. Another thing to look out for is where the tube and threads join inside. On some there is a tube lip that sticks out will hang the follower up.

So just a follow up to this. I called Mossberg again and they sent me another tube. I just received it today, this one came in a plastic bag so it was brand new this time. I screwed it on and it's strait as an arrow! Third times the charm I guess
Thanks for your insight Max100! |
