What type screws in butt plate of Remington 1187?
Can anyone please tell me what type screws are in the butt plate of a 1187? I can't see the head through the holes in the recoil pad. I was told it was a hex head but tried every size there was and didn't get a fit.
Thanks |

If the manual doesn't say or show you, try a phillips - use some liquid soap on the screwdriver shaft to make it easy to go through the recoil pad

I just replaced my 870's factory stock (Remington told me that 1187/870 use the same stock).
The holes on the recoil pad are really deceiving, I actually used a standard size phillips (or maybe a little bigger) screwdriver to unscrew it. Apply soap or non-corrosive lubricant around the shaft of the screwdriver like oneounce said, and unscrew counter clockwise. Don't be afraid to use a little force. |

If it is not a phillips then??? I doubt it's flat head, maybe Torx?

Remington uses Phillips screws in the butt pad.
A #2 usually fits. They can be aggravating and you can't see them, which caused people to think they're not Phillips. |
