High End Stock Blanks
Hello, Thanks for this wonderful forum. My first question is:
Where can I find the best quality stock blanks on the web? I am building a flintlock long rifle and need help getting started. I would like to start from scratch on this one because kits take all the fun out of do-it-yourself. Tom |

Hate to tell you, but it's better to see what you're buying than to rely on the judgment of others. If you can find builders' fairs, rendezvous, black powder shooting matches, you will find stock blanks there. Often times you can haggle over a better price in person - something you can't do when you buy through a catalog.
Another advantage is that you can study the grain and pick a blank that is stronger or prettier. If you get hold of an issue of Muzzle Blasts or Muzzle Loader, there should be listings (particularly in the former magazine) of upcoming rendezvous and shows.

Thanks much for the info. We have a rendezvous here in the spring. Just don't know what day. I'll have to look it up. I also have a couple of hardwood suppliers here as well that may have some good tiger or quilted maple from time to time. Tom
