Tul Ammo not so great in PF9 and SCCY CPX2
I know u shouldn't run steel cased ammo in these guns, but I had to try and figured I would post the result. The ammo just does not do well in these guns. When it DOES go bang it feeds and functions well and is quite accurate. But the tiny hammer on these guns simply does not have enough mass to strike the hard primer of the TUL AMMO hard enough to set it off. I had to double strike sometimes triple strike more than a few of them to get them to go off. I bought and ran ONE 50rd box through both guns. And upon tear down didn't really see any ill effects of it either. YMMV use at your own discretion and risk.

Tula ammo isn't good in ANY gun. Without rekindling the steel case debate. Or the steel jacketed bullet debate. They also have a comparatively large number of bad loads. Squibs are common. Our indoor range has had 3-4 kabooms in the past few months. Every one was found to have a Tula bullet lodged in the barrel. I won't touch the stuff. I don't care how cheap they are. If I can't afford decent ammo for my guns, I can't afford guns.

Deerslayer, I own a PF-9 and appreciate your test and posting the results so that others if tempted won't go down that road

I shoot tula ammo now and then in my pistols. They definitely have hard primers in them. I have a couple of czs that have lighter mainsprings that won't always set tula off. Other than that it's ok ammo.

The primers don't ignite but other than that it's OK ammo ?
That's like saying I have a car that won't start but other than that its an OK car. |

That's funny...TUL ran flawless in my SIG and Glock 21...
In my 1911...It was light striking like a beast. I had to cock the hammer almost every round. I thought my 1911 was yet again messed up (SA one, haven't shot the Colt yet) So I went down the street and got a box of all American Federal ammo and Didn't hiccup So yeah...TUL is friggin weird |

I'll stick with Federal, Winchester, Blazer, or Remington for the range. Even though Tula may feed fine for now, even high dollar pistols like H&K, SIG, & Beretta, for example, say NOT to use steel case ammo due to excess wear on the extractor. To me, it's not worth saving $1-$2 a box just to add more wear to a pistol and possibly affect it's reliability down the line. Heck, even cheap guns deserve good ammo.

I shot a box of Tula with my PF9. No problems at all but I didn't get any more when I found out that steel cases is a nono for the PF9.

I just looked through a dozen HK, SIG and Beretta Owners manuals and no such statement exists . As a matter of fact, the only caution is in regards to reduced service life when using +P or +P+ ammunition, using reloads, remanufactured or unjacketed bullets. There is nothing on the HK, Beretta or Sig websites that cautions against steel cased ammunition. All three have an "FAQ" regarding "What ammunition can I use?"........all three respond with nearly identical answers: "Use any commercially loaded ammunition meeting SAAMI or CIP specs".

The old saying "You Get What You Pay For" has some truth doesn't it?
As cheap as Federal American Eagle is, I'd stick with that.

All this crap is one of the reasons I dont use any steel cased ammo in any of my firearms. Its just not worth it. Stooge is 100% correct. Deerslayer dont worry about what the gun snobs think of your guns. Buy good brass cased ammo and enjoy them.

Yeah I normally do feed them good stuff. Mostly my own hand loads loaded to moderate pressures. I was just very curious, I saw the TuL on the shelf at walmart for 8.97 and wanted to see what all the fuss was. Federal FMJ is 10.47. So one is not really saving that much by buying this crap.

@ 20 boxes per case I would save $30 and THAT is enough of a savings for me.

Don't be such a doomsayer guys, I just bought some Tul 45ACP for my G21. I was looking foward to breaking in my new Lone Wolf 5.2" threaded barrel with the cheap ammo. Gee wiz, if Walmart sells it, it's got to be ok, right? I mean, afterall, Walmart is a cut above K mart, right?

I've tried Tula in 9mm and 45acp. My experience is that it smells something awful and is very underpowered even compared to the cheapest brass cased ammo. Accuracy is so so and the inside of the gun looks like a well used ashtray when I go to clean it. I've used Wolf, Brown Bear, Silver Bear and surplus steel cased ammo and would go with any of those over the Tula brand. The dollar or two I save is defiantly not worth it.

So............where is the Beretta and SIG statements that you claim are in there? And don't you find it odd that the Beretta, SIG and HK websites don't mention the use of aluminum or steel case ammunition? If the stuff is soooooo dangerous and adversely affects function you would think EVERY manufacturer would recommend against its use. They don't, because it doesn't.

I don't think HK is god by any means, I think it is overpriced. Still, to badmouth them because of a recommendation that is pretty standard is stupidity at its best.
