Guess when i think medalist i always associate it with the varmint/tactical one.

Here's how it would look in an MCS T.

Bart B. wrote, "A 1:10 twist for the .30-06 started back in 1903..."

Actually before that, and even before the Krag was adopted. As usual, they experimented with the cartridge before choosing the rifle and began testing .30 caliber cartridges in 1889, using Model 1888 actions. Why .30 caliber? Because, the man who selected it told a reporter, "it seemed like a nice round number".

Things were less formal in those days; under today's system, they would still be holding meetings to choose a new rifle caliber and the "trapdoor" would still be in service.

Doesn't look like there is much difference between the MCS T and the M 40. Does the MCS T have to be bedded or is it piller-blocked from the manufacturer? I presume it's blocked. Something I like about the M 40 is it has a higher comb that has a groove just behind the bolt that allows the bolt to be easily removed. You can see it in the pic. B&C M 40 weighs 2.7 lb. what's the MCS T weigh?

The reason why i'm so sold on manners is the mini chassis system. Which serves as aluminum bedding and DBM for 360$. In which i wouldn't have to bed it at all. No smithing required, torque and go really.

MCS TA is 2.5lbs 2.1 if you get it with 90% carbon fiber.

That i can't argue with it's certainly more appealing price wise.

My friend sent me this group today from his AAC, still on the hogue stock. I was impressed.

4 shots in the center hole

Best he could do at 400yds with no data lol we guestimated but hell he's on target.

Just as i posted this another thread came up on the hide concerning remington's quality control and the AAC's accuracy.

Brownells has .308 bolt face 700 actions on sale right now for 350$ that's hard to pass up for a new action. Could take that put it in a stock of my choice and take my .308 barrel from my 5R and have it cut to 16.5 or 18.5 and threaded. Get a bartlein blank like i planned and switch my main rifle to .260. Since i already have all the components to reload .260 and .308.

Just a thought, would cost a couple 100$ more but the more negatives that keep popping up about the AAC the more worrisome i get.

Jerry, I am not exactly sure what your rifle is doing, but what I am understanding is that it groups decent but has flyers?
I have never had a Remington that shot great until I squared the action and re-cut the chamber. Their barrels are usually pretty good barrels. Their machine work and assembly just leave a lot to be desired. Having said that, the symptom I usually see are poor groups or groups moving as the barrel heats up. Flyers are usually some sort of bedding issue or barrel contact issue. Even aluminum block bedded stocks can have issues. I have seen some expensive stocks with aluminum blocks throw shots like crazy until the contact problem they had was solved.

Jerry what's the OD of the AAC? Is it the same as every sendero/varmint contour? around .825?

Yes, .825 to .850. However the AAC-SP is threaded so it's natural smaller at the threads and .850 at the shoulder + or - a few thousandths. I can check it with a mike if you like. It's laying on bench in the shop.

reynolds357, with the original barrel it wouldn't group under 2" at 100 yards. No fliers, other then the ones I pulled, it just wouldn't shoot even close to MOA.

The action was trued and the Bartlein installed. It was put back in the same B&C stock I had put it in originally. We did bed the recoil lug but only the recoil lug. It went from a + 2 MOA to 1/4 MOA.

I was so sure it was going to be a good shooter that before I even shot it I put it in the B&C M 40 stock, installed a mag system, tactical bolt knob and a Jewell trigger. I was really disappointed when nothing I put down the tube and nothing I tried got it to shoot any better. I put the Bartlein barrel on it and the first three rounds (same load my other 308 shoots 1/4 MOA with) were under 1/2 MOA. The three bullet types I've tried (SMK 168 & 175 & SGK 165) have all grouped under 1/2 MOA. When I do my part it'll shoot 1/4 MOA now.

How much work was done to the action? I dont question at all that the custom barrel is better than the Remington, but when three things were changed at one time, it is hard to absolutely say with certainty that the problem was the barrel.

Receiver threads were chased with a tap, new barrel installed and bolt to chamber headspaced.
