Need source for 1/2" x 28TPI tap & die.
Anybody know where I can obtain a tap & die that matches my AR-15.
Standard kits at Sears and such only have 1/2" x 20 NF. Ye,s I have a metal lathe, still want a T&D set for this. Thanks for all info.

Rutland tool has about anything you could ever want and will, I think, make anything you request on a custom basis.

I've had good luck with JTS Machine for taps and dies in sizes not found at Sears, Lowes, etc.

Most tool distributors do not carry gunsmith pitches in taps and dies. Brownells and Midway have the taps and dies, or you can try Pacific Tool and Gauge.

Thanks for all the help. I found them at Rutland Tools. They are already in the mail. Also Rutland seems to have a store in Phx.

If anyone else wants a source, MSC usually has everything listed in Machinery's Handbook and then some. Their special purpose hand taps page includes 1/2" taps with thread pitches of 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 24, 27, 30, 32, 36, 40, 48, 56 tpi. The standard threads are on their regular tap pages.
