Savage 22 fte

I have a savage stevens model 62 in 22lr that has an issue with fte. The rifle kicks the spent casing toward the side of the chamber crushing the casing and partially loading the next round scuffing or bending the bullet. Any ideas as to what is causing this problem or ways to fix the problem.
