How much harm am I doing to my Mini-14 by pushing white box winchester 55gr. 5,56X45s thru it?

The Mini-14 Ranch and Mini Thirty Rifles are designed to use either standardized U.S. military, or factory loaded sporting cartridges manufactured in accordance with U.S. industry practice. Always be careful to ensure you are using the correct ammunition for your rifle.

page 12.

Also WWB 55 grain ammo is .223 AFAIK....so there should be no issue.

hope this helps

Thanks Mike, the stuff is horribly inaccurate in my new mini, but I did want to salvage the brass.

What led you to belive that you were harming your mini by using ammo marked 5.56?

He probaly thought that because alot of AR's could only shoot .223 because 5.56x45 are generaly loaded a bit hotter so he probaly thought it would be the same for mini's to.

I believe you will find that Mini-14 rifles are not terribly accurate to begin with, and that it has little to do with the ammo (although better quality ammo will undoubtedly improve the accuracy a bit).

He stated his Mini-14 was new, so I assume it has the newer tapered barrel. If so, it doesn't deserve that "not terribly accurate" label. I've found these newer models to be very accurate.

Perhaps, and I have only seen one new Mini 14 at the range, and it was putting the rounds within 2"-3" off the bench, but I have no idea how good of a shooter the man is. While 2"-3" is not terrible, and it is better than the old Mini 14s, it's still nothing to write home about.

the pressure

guess this old man is going to have to break out his "old" mini and try it. not a new model but have had it for years and havent fired a shot. all i have heard on all the boards that i frequent is how in-accurate it is. all i require is any part of a beer can at 100 yards.

If you want to hit something with an older mini use heavy bulletsso they will match the twist (1-7) and stabilize.

jughead2, I'm sure you'll hit that beer can without any trouble, provided you haven't emptied it into your stomach prior to the shot...

Look gang, don't get all twitterpated, my handloads will do 1.5" at 100 yds. the winchester stuff just sucks in it, and wasn't very accurate in my bushmaster AR either.
