What can I shoot in my M1A?
I've used .308 and 7.62x51 M80 ball, but are there any other military surplus variants out there that I could use?
What is 7.62x54R Russian Nagant? I'd like to know all the possibilities. |

For the love of all that is holy
The ONLY surplus ammo you can shoot in your rifle is Nato .308. It has a cross within a circle on it. The most variety you can hope for are some Winchester .308 168 grain hollow point boat tail target rounds (at about $1 each).
Other ammo isn't made for your rifle and will damage it and/or you. |

A.Rex,
Your M1-A is chambered for the 7.62 Nato round, AKA 7.62 x 51. You can also shoot commercial .308 Winchester in it. Some good surplus 7.62 x 51 is made by Hirtenberger of Austria, FNM of Portugal, PMP of South Africa, and British surplus from the Radway Green arsenal. These can be bought in case lots from many of the online suppliers. The 7.62 x 54R round is a rimmed cartridge for the old Mosin-Nagant bolt rifles used by Russia, Finland, Romania, and lots of other Soviet satellite states. Just my .02, Swampy |

Surplus marked 7.62x51 will be fine.
