AK-47 Scope

Looking to purchase a scope for my newly acquired AK. I have very limited knowledge of scopes, primarily being a handgun shooter. Your help and suggestions are appreciated. Budget is $200 but would like not to spend too much.

You should be able to find a Leupold VX-1 2-7X scope in your price range. Set to 2X it's fine for close range and 7X is about all you'll need on an AK. I just ordered one from Midway for less than $200.
Leupold has one of the best reputations in the scope business.
I suggest the LR Duplex reticle.

if you have the side rail installed already...the above would be a good option...

I have the sks scout mount from www.scoutscopes.com an dit is rock solid, so I assume their AK mount would be as well

you would need a handgun or LER scope for it.

replaces your rear AK sight, co-witness to the dot...have a few buds who love em for general usage...no need to replace handguards etcc..

if it equiped with the side mount, and I'm sure someone is going to let me have it, the russian optics made for the side mount are not that bad.

I've got a ProMag side rail mount and a cheap $40 3-9x40 Simmons on my .223 Saiga and it fits me well. With some Loctite Blue I've had no problems with zero yet. Don't know if the Simmons would hold up to regular abuse from a 7.62x39 though.

I'll second the russian/belarus optics. Check out Kalinka Optics. I have several AK's with optics, all commbloc. I like the looks as well as function on an ak. As long as you've got the side rail you're good to go. If not, check out Tantals site for some options.

scopes

I get scopes from CDNN and I have several all under $20 they are the short 7 1/2" ones they work good on my SKSs.I am not shooting at 500 yrds, and the guns generally do not shoot tight groups.and I can shoot rifle very well.my 1903 will shoot 1" groups at 100Yrds with my hand loads.
why put an expensive scope on a bang about gun.the best use is for long range.

Get a red dot, not a scope.
