45 ACP with Nosler 185gr JHP C.O.L.

I've reloaded my first batch of samples 10 rounds. I've used 5.3 grains of Win 231 with Win primers. I've seated them to a COL of 1.200. Can anyone confirm this length? And also suggest a good hanndbook for reloading 45.
My equipment and handbook are very dated and I'm slowly upgrading.

I've also used this bullet before. My OAL was 1.207", so you're in the ballpark. My manuals are also old, so I can't personally recommend a recent version. But, I've heard from a number of other reloaders that the current Lyman manual is one of the best. The powder and bullet manufacturers will usually offer an abbreviated online guide, as well.

One of the reloading instructors at Cabelas turned me on to this site..... (Hodgdon loading data)

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp
Choose "pistol", then "45 Acp" and hit "get data"
Since the base of the Nosler 185gr is the same as the jacketed base on the Hornady depicted in the link.. I used that info to determine which powder I wanted.

I've chosen the Autocomp powder...:
185 GR. HDY JSWC Winchester AutoComp .451" 1.135" 6.7 856 12,600 CUP 7.4 958 16,200 CUP

This powder is pretty new and very popular with the competition shooters.... I prefer it too because it takes a fair amount more powder than some of the others, thereby filling the case a bit better and helping the burn even better with less air space.

However as far as "C.O.L.", I used Noslers loading data for their 185gr .45 acp.
Seems "1.190"min./1.275"max." seems to be the magic info... so 1.2 as you suggest should be fine as its within that range.
http://www.nosler.com/Reloading-Data...85-Grains.aspx

I also heard that soon the Hornady 185gr FTX Hornady FTX ammo "185gr" (critical defense) will be avail for handloading.

I use their FTX 200gr. with my .460 and it's the straightest shooting ammo of anything beyond my dreams.... I can nail a quarter at 100 yrds "on 8.5 power with my Leopold!"
5 shots within a half dollar. But as mentioned, thats on a bench with a scope... but the bullet will do it if the gun and shooter will.

The pointed FTX type that Nosler and Hornady is coming out with seems to be fabulous.

While as of yet we don't have a filler for the hole in the Nosler, that hole is so small, it doesn't appear there is any wind turbulence to worry about whereas the XTP ammo is slightly bigger, with competition being even worse.

The Nosler 185gr was cheaper "250 bullets/box" than the competition too.

Since my last post Hornady has dropped their price to be competitive and come out with a new bullet for the. ACP 45 which imo is even more accurate.

Hornady 200 gr FTX ".452" for my S&W 460
*Hornady 185gr 45 cal .451 XTP for my Kimber 45.
