first reloading attempt. Questions.
I loaded up some 12ga empties i had lying around with approx 30grns of herco. and put in a shotcup and 8 32cal lead roundballs on top.
Let's just say it really thumps. I have a 18.5" mossy pistol grip and the muzzle flash was huge. I want to know if this related to the type of powder or the amount used? This was the only time i have ever reloaded before and i don't want my next attempt to be my last. Are there ways to spot overpressure in a shotgun load like in brass cartridges. |

Making up loads is not the best or safest way to learn reloading. If you are going to relaod shotguns, get a loading manual for shotgun shell reloading. It will specify what cases work with which shot cups and what powder charge with a given shot charge. Until you do that, please refrain from experimenting. I understand it is exciting, but you could seriously injure yourself or others.

You really need reliable load data before you blow yourself up |
