Best all-around .223 bullet?
Picked up a 20" barrel Hbar Colt recently and have been reloading with 25gr varget and a 55gr Hornady FMJ BT. Seems accurate enough for shooting open sight like I am. What is your preferred bullet for this type of plinking and shooting at a 300yd gong? Any experience using some of the more inexpensive bullets available such as the Midway Dogtown? A HPBT match grade round for this seems like overkill, both in price and the accuracy realized between the two. Would a flat bottomed round like the Dogtown be just as accurate as a FMJ BT? Thanks for the feedback.

I've used the 55gr dogtown in my A2 config AR...
It shot more accurately than the typical inexpensive 55gr FMJ-BT fodder I put down it. 1:9 twist, 20" barrel, chrome lined. Best shooting I've done so far has been with 62gr FMJ-BT Prvi Partizan ammo. I haven't bought anything to reload other than the dogtowns and generic 55gr FMJ-BT bullets. Once I'm out of 55gr stuff I'll be standardizing on a slightly heavier bullet for my next batch of reloads. |

I think you've made a good choice. I also prefer the 55gr. BT.
