Leather OWB or "tanker" holster recommendations

Hi all,

I am the proud owner of a new (to me) 686 plus 4" and am now in the market for some decent leather to holster it. Prefer OWB and maybe a tanker or accross the chect hunter type for nature walks. Any first hand recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I have an aviators shoulder holster (similar to the Tanker style but made for the Victory model revolver) and I doubt that the under lugged barrel of the 686 would fit, or at least it would be a tight fit.

There are companies that make replica military shoulder holsters, and some of these are modified to fit some more modern handguns.

I haven't had a chance to try mine yet, but for "nature walks" and riding in a vehicle or on a horse I've heard that a crossdraw holster is a good choice.

I have just purchased a retro navy aviator holster from pacific canvas. I carry a 4" model 19 in it comfortably.

I'll second Simply Rugged. The chesty puller system takes one of their normal belt holsters and makes it a chest rig. A bit pricey, since you need to buy the holster and the straps, but they make good quality gear. I've been very happy with my belt holster from them.

Another vote for the chesty puller from Simply Rugged.

Not compared to two ( a tanker rig, and an OWB ) holsters!

The chesty puller rig, when detatched from the harness is an EXCELENT OWB holster.

Rob at Simply Rugged is also a great guy to do business with.

I've been very impressed with the quality of his work.

For a replica custom US military style shoulder/tanker rig(s), see El Paso Saddlery in Texas. They do leather holsters like the older designs. I'm not sure if they do custom holsters for DA revolvers but you can check.
Lawman Leather Goods may have a cool shoulder rig. They had a treated black leather material they marketed for milspec/duty sidearms & outdoor revolvers. They make a leather Dirty Harry revolver rig; www.lawmanleathergoods.com .

I'd contact them first before any payment or order. Some custom shops are backed up or a new purchase may take a long wait.

Yet another vote for Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake versatile suggest you get the straps for IWB and still have OWB and cross draw . Add the chesty puller for chest carry.

I considered a chest holster, but once I got an El Paso Saddlery 1920 Cross Draw, I bought three. My preferred Woods Walker is a 5.5" Ruger Bisley 44 Special. I can walk, stoop, sit, or ride in a vehicle without moving the rig. Very comfortable.

I toted a Ruger B-hawk 4-5/8's today in some after season scouting for about 4 hrs in a Pacific Canvas aviator and have been fan of that rig for some time now. It is not El Paso or Simply Rugged quality, but it has been holding up quite well for about half the price.

My M27 will not fit in it. Can't say about a 686.
