Using heavy 9mm bullets in 380

The question came up a while back if you can use heavy 9mm bullets in 380. I mentioned that when you seat heavier bullets in 380, they bulge the case because they are too long. I was loading up some 9mm today and came across a 380 case mixed in. So I figued I'd make up a dummy round with a heavy bullet to show what it looks like. This is a 140 gr bullet in the 380 case. As you can see, the case is bulged out a fair amount in the middle. This will prevent the case from chambering. And that is why we stick to lighter bullets with the 380.

Even if one could get a heavier bullet to chamber - due to longer bullet length could one even get enough powder into the case as well (without compressing) to make it even remotely effective or even safe to fire?

Can't say I'd be all that eager to put my little .380 through that.
