45 Colt loads
I went out to the range saturday and shot my Winchester trapper in 45 colt. Oh man that was fun. I don't know why I keep that gun in the back of the safe. It was fun just to let lose off hand at 50 yards and shoot little things laying on the berm. What are some good loads you 45 colt shooters have.
I have two loads and one I really like. The one I really like is with a 250gr XTP with 15.5grs of Blue dot and a CCI 300 primer. The other is 300gr Speer Plated soft point with 18.2grs of 2400 with CCI 350 primers. I'm going to stay with the XTP becuase they are way more accurate than the Speer. I sand bagged the gun at 25 yards. It was pretty easy to keep 8 rounds in a three inch circle with the XTPs. I could not do that with the Speers bullets. I'm looking for a fast round. But I don't want to blow up my gun ether. I may use the 45 on a few hog hunts. The trapper reminded me when I was a kid shooting my Red Rider BB gun. Just had a little more kick |

I'm thinking I may load up some 45 Colts to shoot out of my 454 Casull. Two things I'm wondering. What is a good jacketed bullet for 45 Colt loads and whats a good lead bullet that wont lead up my barrel? Are the Oregon Trail laser cast good for that?

Any cast bullet from 200gr to 255gr, 5.5gr 700X. Good Cowboy load and a great (cheap) plinker. Quantrill

I'm shooting the laser hard casts(300gr) of of my Marlin and Vaquero's. I'm loading them rather warm too(25gr of h110), with no problems. They are tough bullets.

Kinda new to it.
Previously reloaded for a 4 3/4 Ruger Blackhawk. Didn't like the gun as I couldn't get a comfortable grip on it. Recently purchased a Bisley Blackhawk hunter which I really like.
Only had the gun a couple of months but these are the starting loads I have worked up. 1. Casual plinking fun load. 250gr. Lazercast RNFP with 7.2gr. WW231. Accuarate round, mild recoil. Chorny's at 850FPS. out of my 7 1/2" barrel. 2. 265gr Cast performance WNGC with 20gr. WW296. Very accuarate, a little stout, 1100FPS. 3. 335gr. Cast performance LNGC with 17gr. L'il gun. Starting load. very stout, 1100FPS. Bullets landed about 5"low and to the left of target. Once I figured out where they were going, load was very accurate when compensated for. Hope this helps |
