Old School Gun Holster

I have been looking everywhere for this old school holster that my brother would love for his birthday. He is a County Sheriff and our father had the same holster, it meant a lot to my father and brother so I can't think of a better gift. Problem is I don't know the brand or model number of the holster, I do have a picture of it however. It is the same holster worn by Sheriff Bannerman on the Dead Zone TV show, and I have seen a few cops on TV wearing it. If anybody can recognize it or would know where I can go to find it I would appreciate it. I have checked with all the famous brands(Bianchi, Safariland)but have had no luck finding it, maybe I missed it.

What part of the country are you in? Or which county? What era was your father a deputy sheriff? These facts often has a bearing on what holster suppliers most officers use.

From the photo it's hard to tell, but the forward retention strap design reminds me of a Gould & Goodrich holster I saw years ago.

I am in southern California, that holster picture is from about 4 years ago.

That looks like an old Safariland holster from the late '80s early '90s. I should be able to tell you which one it is, I've seen a million of them, and it might be a Gould and Goodrich, or it might be a Bianchi. It was a fairly common holster design before we got concerned about such things as weapons retention.

The problem with finding old school holsters is that no one makes them anymore.

Triple K makes holsters similar to the one shown, and basket-weave is an option on nearly all of them.

I have one just like that, only for a 1911.

Mine is made by G Wm Davis Leather Company

The holsters will very in looks a bit depending on the Model of Pistol. Mine is for the 45 Govt.

Or Bianchi or Davis.

Look at the holster. It's certainly a thumb-break style, but there is a strap on the forward outside with a snap. This might be a "diversionary" strap, it's not clear enough to tell. The rear edge has a rivet or screw below the trigger guard and it's an open-bottomed holster. It is not heavily molded to the gun and it appears to be made from real leather. I think the gun pictured in a Beretta 92.

I'm not a big fan of traditional leather type duty gear but I'd check these well known, respected firms;
Don Hume, Tex Shoemaker, El Paso Saddlery, Ted Blocker, Mernickle, Kirkpatrick Leather.

Tex Shoemaker is a well known police supply/holster maker from southern CA. Blocker is also from CA. His holsters are used in the Fox series; Bones.
You should fine decent brown-dark brown leather rigs or they could assist you with a custom shop that does carry it.

It could be a Tex Shoemaker, they make a similar holster in their "HA" or "Hanger" series. Check out www.texshoemaker.com or try ebay and search for "Tex Shoemaker Holsters".

I make fine holsters and saddles for a living so it does take something special for me to take notice...But http://www.awlworks.com/index.html makes some of the best duty leather I have seen for a long time.

It seems that there web site doesn't really do them justice, but I have handled there rigs in person and they are extremly well made!!!
