Best Caliber For Threat
So I'm trying to find a good ccw caliber. I'm thinking either 10mm or .45 ACP because I want to be able to stop someone on drugs but I'm not entirely sure. I've always heard the following though:
-A .22 and 9mm will stop an undetermined enemy but not a kinda determined enemy. -A .32 and .380 will stop a kinda determined enemy but not a determined enemy. -A .38 and .40 will stop a determined enemy but not a really determined one. -A .41 magnum and .357 will stop a really determined enemy but not one on drugs. -A .45 and 10mm will stop an enemy on drugs. Is this an accurate assessment? I got in an argument with Earl about it. He was saying that was poppycock what do you guys think? |

Too many variables. Learn to shoot one well and make sure it's a reliable gun.

Sounds like absolute BS. Why would .380 be a better stopper than 9mm?
You just need to worry about shot placement and adequate penetration to vital organs. |

Rather than using a "stop a determined enemy" scale, let's use a "fly backward when hit" scale.

best caliber
I agree with Earl, although not necessarily with his choice of words.
Shot placement is THE most critical factor. The myth that a .45, or a 10 mm, or a .44 has incredible "knockdown" power is common but unproven. The NYPD published an exhaustive survey of police-perp shootings and found that shot placement was the only variable related to stopping the shootings. |

Earl is correct, if there is an Earl, and he is not used as a literary conceit.
We have done caliber wars into the dirt, so we don't need to redo a counter-poppy cock thread. Closed.
