7.65 Argentine
Anyone here have experience reloading the Argentine Mauser? I've picked up online that you can use 303 bullets in the 7.65 case, but load data was a bit scarce. Thanks!

Welll, do you have a mod. '91 or a later version? I think they were also made as a mod. '08. It matters. the '92 is quite a bit less strong than the '08.
How can you tell? The '08 has a normal Mauser type box magazine and it's completly contained in the stock. The '91 is what I have, it has a single column magazine that extends to the bottom of the trigger guard. It's an OLD cartridge, about the equal of a .308 so it's good for deer or other midsize big game. Many, most actually, Argentines were quite well made, beautiful metal work that exceeded most civilian sporters! Well worth saving and using. Loading data can indeed be hard to find. Find a Lyman loading manual and you will have the only current data source I'm aware of. Just be aware of the difference in strenghts, if you have the later model it's as strong as current rifles. |

Only with the 1909 rifles
There were earlier, pre-1898 versions that were weaker.
I never loaded it a lot. I believe I loaded jacketed 150gr bullets with 46gr IMR 4895. I loaded a lot of Lead bullets with it also. Some links from the WWW: http://www.chuckhawks.com/7-65x53_7-65x53R.htm http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp http://www.handloads.org/loaddata/de...Powder&Source= http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=95296 http://home.comcast.net/~parslowb/20...r-carbine.html |

I've used 150 and 180 gr. Sierras and 174 gr. Hornadys, best results so far have been with IMR 4064. My rifle is an `09; it has no problem safely passing 308 velocities with good accuracy.
Grafs shows to have Norma brass in stock, it's a little pricey but it lasts a long time. Privy brass they show as out of stock. The old Norma ammo was HOT! I used to buy it up everytime I found it at a gun show. Their newer loading seem a little milder. By the way, I'm in central Texas also, even the mild argy loads work like a charm on our small sized deer. |

7.65
What an awesome coincidence. I have a model 1891 that I got from my dad a few months ago that I have been wanting to work up a load for. Finding brass (or even loaded ammunition) has been a problem for me until today. I picked up a new XDM today and while I was waiting on the insta-check I noticed three lonely boxes of 7.65x53 Argentine PRVI PARTIZAN 180 gr. SPBT calling my name. There was no price on the box so I ask the clerk to scan them. 22$ each so I added two of them to the bill. Now I feel bad that I left the one box all alone on the shelf.
Anyhow, this is the only data I got. Its from the 46th edition LYMAN book: 150gr Jacketed Spitzer {Speer} IMR-3031 40.0g(2512 fps) max 44.0g(2739fps) IMR-4064 41.0g(2331) 46.0g(2710) IMR-4895 41.0g(2392) 46.0g*(2732) IMR-4320 43.0g(2457) 48.0g(2747) IMR-4350 45.0g(2197) 50.0g+(2512) H-380 46.0g(2531) 51.0g(2747) H-4831 48.0g(2109) 53.0g+(2380) 180gr Jacketed SP {Remington SPCL} IMR-3031 38.0g(2288fps) max 42.0g(2531fps) IMR-4064 40.0g(2298) 44.0g(2551) IMR-4895 40.0g*(2304) 44.0g(2551) IMR-4320 42.0g(2040) 47.0g(2666) IMR-4350 44.0g(2150) 49.0g+(2463) H-380 45.0g(2364) 50.0g+(2544) H-4831 47.0g(2049) 52.0g+(2320) 215gr Jacketed Spitzer {Remington SP} IMR-3031 34.0g(2000fps) max 38.0g(2178) IMR-4064 36.0g(1988) 40.0g+(2197) IMR-4895 36.0g(2036) 40.0g*(2227) IMR-4320 40.0g(2159) 44.0g(2336) IMR-4350 41.0g(1960) 46.0g+(2212) H-380 42.0g(2092) 47.0g(2304) H-4831 46.0g(1988) 51.0g+(2188) * designates potentially most accurate loads + designates a compressed powder charge Trim to length 2.100" Primers used....Remington 9 1/2 (large rifle) TEST SPECS Argentine mauser 29 1/4" barrel length 1-9.8" twist rate .312 groove diameter Hope you find this helpful, but keep in mind this data comes from a 1987 source. Thanks for the replys. Thanks for the load data mudlust, it's a good starting place and it'll serve as a good reference for TFL readers. I actually have 3 argentine mausers: a 91, and 2 '09s (one cavalry). I've had the dies and spare brass for awhile but haven't had a chance to load for them yet.
