at the range, group testing TG vs. HP38
okay here it is, for some reason i cannot edit the pics sent from my phone, the are subsequently upside down. these are 9mm btw.
my clear winner is hp38, i can't tell a difference between the primers. 1st pic is the factory fed champ and the lyman #8 alloy .355 bullets i was using with TG 2nd pic is TG/3.9gr using diff primers and penn bullets 3rd pic is HP38/4.2gr using diff primers and penn bullets i wish i had some of the lyman #8 bullets left for comparison on the hp38 but i dont have any left. these were taken at 25 yards using a carbine to eliminate user error best i could. please note that i shot several hundred rounds today with the different loads without any hiccups or misfires. |

I like TiteGroup for plated, and jacketed 9mm Luger. For everything else it is either Bull's Eye or HP38/Win 231. I have not had good results using TiteGroup with lead at all.

i have never usued anything but titegroup and i only throw lead. i really enjoyed the hp38 today, it ran cleaner, more accurate, maybe slightly more kick, but overall it's my new preference for lead. i have yet to come acroos any unique, but i would like to give it atry also since evryone raves about it.

I lucked into HP38 as my first powder , and have liked it ever since. HS6 is good too, didnt really have success with titegroup myself. Every chance I get to but up some HP38 I grab it. Has doen well with 115gr plated,124gr plated and 147gr lead also 180gr plated in my 40 S&W .

9x19?
I prefer 231/HP38 over TiteGroup for anything. TG is HOT and can be spiky in terms of pressure. If you could find them, I prefer AA2 for a fast powder in 9x19 (light loads) and Power Pistol or Silhouette for mid-range to max loads. Almost all I shoot are 115 and 124gn L-SWCs. If you ever load SWCs, try to get the shoulder to just kiss the rifling/lede. |
