Ruger LC380

I love mine. It is reliable and easy to conceal even in the hottest weather.

Personally I don't see the need to downsize the round to 380 in a gun that works well with 9MM. I know people bring up recoil, but if somebody can't handle a round as mild as 9MM maybe they need to consider a 32, or 22 rimfire.

I looked at it the other day and I do not understand why Ruger made the gun. They already have one of the best .380's on the market in the LCP.

If I wanted a .380, I'd opt for the LCP. If I wanted a larger gun, I'd opt for the 9mm.

Unless you are really recoil shy, the 9mm will provide a better self defense round, normally 9mm can be easier to find than .380 and is cheaper.

If I wanted a .380 for a decent price I would go for the LCP. It is alot easier to conceal if you ever want to pocket carry. If I wanted a 9mm I would opt for the Kahr CM9. I had both the Kahr and the LC, of the two I still have the Kahr and love the trigger. I can easily drill steel 8" wide stand up targets at 40+ feet because of how great the trigger is.

Just as an fyi the 9mm will knock the standups down at 40 feet and my LCP won't knock them down at 25 feet without putting 3 or more rapid fire shots on them in a row. Take from that what you will but for me the 9mm is on me any time I can carry it over my LCP!

LC 380 is a better size for my hands, going to get one as some as i get back to work and cash coming in . The lcp is just TOO darn SMALL for me to handle after the second or third shot i have to adjust my grip or lose it . As far as the 380 it will do the job as intended . up close and personal 5-10 ft the lighter recoil may be more of a benifit . First rule in a gun fight , HAVE A GUN !
Second rule . Know how to use it .

I have no experience with the LC380, But I do have 2 LC9s and 2 LCPs. It make me wonder why someone would want a LC380 over an LCP. Maybe better sights, last shot hold open, an extra round, a gun that fits your hand well, making follow up shots much easier, a loaded chamber indicator(yes some of us DO like them) and a pistol that the oppressed people of California can purchase. Why would someone buy the LC380 when a tiny, hard to shoot, hard to grasp, little rocket like the LCP is available? I guess thats why pistols like the Bersa Thunder, and Walther PPK never sell because everyone wants an LCP.

With all due respect, that is not logical. If someone cannot handle 9mm in a 17 ounce polymer handgun, it makes more sense to drop down one notch to .380 than to drop to 32 and below. The LC380 fills the same niche as say a Bersa Thunder380 CC which is about 171/2 ounces with an empty mag and many people swear by them. It's all about more options.

It's the whole fear of recoil thing. Or fear of getting used to the recoil. I don't get it either.

If this had been around when we bought the LC9 for my wife I'm sure we would have got it. When she shot the LC9 she hated it. I'm sure as heck not gonna have her try my TCP (pretty much same as LCP). That thing would jump right out of her hands.

The LC9 ended up getting sold and she adopted my P238. REALLY wishing the LC380 was around at the time we got the LC9, I would probably still have my P238 if it was.

I guess that's my vote for you to try it out. Sounds like you have a good idea of what you are looking for.

I imagine if Ruger was a government agency, particularly but not exclusively in a Democratic administration, they would be coming out with models based upon what their experts have decided we need, including how much recoil we should be content with and what models are appropriate for us. Since they are not, it looks like they are creating various models based upon the quaint idea that there might be a market for them and they might make a buck or two. Go figure.

The LCP in .22lr would sell more guns than the squib LC380 will...99% of people wanting a .380 WILL buy the LCP...it is the rockstar of .380's.

In spite of my carping, I own a coupla LCPs and no LC380s, or 9s.

I think the LCP is the "bee's knees" of small 380s.

I might buy one them LC22s also.

I've been saying for about two years now that a company should make a pocket auto the size of the LCP/TCP/Bodygaurd et all in a .22mag. I like the .22mag more than the .22lr for SD situations and some ballistic info I have seen puts it near .380. Plus, I am betting they could make it something like an eight round magazine.

That seems like a great gun for some recoil sensitive folks (like my wife).

But, I digress... The LC380 seems like a good gun as well. A little big of my personal taste, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who will/do like it.

I would not be interested in an LCP rimfire that fired more expensive ammo than long rifle. However right now, at least ammo could be found for it.

For SD I'll stick with the 380 in my Elsie when I cary it
