I can feel the pain already :)
Found another left hand rifle, and of course, I had to get it.
Remington CS 700 BDL left hand 8mm Magnum Any love for the 8mm mag on here?

I love it more than the .338 Win.Mag., but not as much as my .375 ULTRA...

The word of the day is ouch. You will say it approx 1/10th of a second before the target does.

They make a real impression the first time you shoot one. I've shot a few, but not this one. Yet.
The quality of this 700 seems real high. Nice wood, and it's very smooth, with a great trigger. It was fired once by the previous owner, who described it as "knocking his fillings loose", and then he put it away. Gotta love it!!! Going to have to get some dies. I don't think I will be buying too much factory ammo, at $65 or more, per box.

.416 Rem Mag over 100.00 a box. About 60.00 to reload with good componets. Had one for quite awhile.

That is an excellent find. I'm a lefty myself and am drooling over your 700. I've never fired a 8mm but if I saw that gun for sale, I would have jumped on it. Congrats!

They're a wild ride. Flat shooting and big fun!
But not for the meek.

I had one for several years. It was a kick, I must admit! It ate a lot, almost 80 gr of H450 powder under a 220 gr bullet, launched it at almost 3,100 fps. Between the muzzle blast and the recoil, it was like having your head slammed in a car door when it went off. Finally sold it to an avid elk hunter when I lived in Idaho. I miss it sometimes, other times not at all.

Definitely a rifle for Idaho, Montana, or eastern WA. Not much use in the brush, unless you just want to wake up everything in the area.

I've always liked the cartridge... but as the fickle gun gods would have it... I wound up with a 338 Win Mag, & A 375 H&H, so... ( sighs ) so far no "real" need for an 8 mag...
enjoy... your great find

Another way
If you're going to load for it, go ahead and replace the pad with an R3, and have the barrel rebored to .338. RCBS has 338-8mmMag dies. Then, you can push the 250 Nosler to the same velocity as the 220. The best velocity I've ever seen, within SAAMI limits, is 3030 for the 220gr. 8mm bullet. My sources are Speer 14, Nosler 6, and Ken Waters.

Reading some Elmer Keith stuff, you come across situations where he swears by the .338 bores, and puts down the .32 bores because they're just silly. Can't remember who was his peer that loved the .32 bores and hated the .338's. |
